Fiji Islands

The Republic of the Fiji Islands is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. The country occupies about 322 islands, of which a little over a hundred are permanently inhabited. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu are for 87% populated.

What makes Fiji so tempting for any lover of outdoors are it’s blue skies and sea which connected the over three hundred islands together. This Melanesian country is caught between Hawaii and New Zealand. It is interesting to know that Fiji lies in a time zone that makes it reach a certain date before any other countries. Among the 322 islands and 522 islets, Vanua Levu and Viti Levu are the most important; these islands are Fiji’s two largest. A total of 837 thousand people populate the Fijian archipelago according to the latest measurement.

Fiji can be considered a natural paradise. The crystalline waters are what draws tourist to get closer. The promise of being able to swim, kayak and snorkel in clean, clear waters is simply heaven. However, take the time to explore the land areas. You will not be disappointed with the lush green hills and breathtaking views. Walk further to find temples, archeological gems and mountain villages. The walk can whet your appetite for both shopping and eating out. Enjoy local cuisine, featuring delicious seafood and piping hot curries. It is also not difficult to make friends with the locals as they are very accommodating.

You can reach Fiji either by sea or air. You can find many connecting flights to Fiji. Make sure, however, to book your flight in advance to avoid the expensive peak season ticket prices. Peak season includes the period from April to October and the Christmas holidays. In Fiji, you can get around via different types of transportation: bus, boat, tram, car, motorcycle and local transport. The climate in Fiji is tropical and compatible to outdoor activities. The temperature range is from 66 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you are from the United States and other exempted countries, you only need your valid passport to enter Fiji. You do not have to apply for a visa prior to your visit. Make sure, however, that your passport will still be valid for up to three months after you leave the island nation. Bring along important travel documents, such as your travel itinerary.
