Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar lies along the eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea in Southeast Asia. It is dubbed "The Golden Land", as it is evident when you visit the country, because their pagodas, monasteries, monuments and accessories are all embellished with gold, be it gold leaves or the very least, gold paint.
The country is divided into seven states and seven divisions, with its capital being Yangon.
In a population estimated at over 60 million people, Myanmar is made up of 135 races namely major groups like the Kachin and Kayah people. One well known ethnic minority tribe under the Kayin group is the Padaung, famous for their long-necked women who wore coils around it.
There are about 111 ethnic languages in the country, though its official language is the Myanmar language. English is also widely spoken.
