Malaysia is separated into two land masses by the South China Sea: Peninsular or West Malaysia with eleven states and two federal territories, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and East Malaysia on the island of Borneo, which consists of two states, Sabah and Sarawak, and federal territory of Labuan.
With a population of approximately 26 million people, its diverse citizens comprises of the Malays, Chinese, Indians and various ethnic groups. Islam is the official religion though other religions are freely practised. The national language is Bahasa Melayu but English is widely spoken. Most Malaysians are bilingual if not trilingual, so communication here is not much of a problem.
Malaysia is one of the most visited destinations in Asia. It is not only known for its lush rainforest and sandy beaches, but also for being a multicultural melting pot of colourful festivals and customs, tasty cuisine and language, and of course, its friendly people.
Its capital city is the lively Kuala Lumpur, which is also home to the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin buildings in the world, standing at 1,482.6 feet.
