This continent is made up of 12 countries and three major territories. It contains the world's largest rainforest and longest river, the Amazon, and the spectacular Andes Mountains, the second highest mountain range.

South America is a burst of exotic and colourful culture. The ancient Inca civilisation, Machu Picchu, in Peru; the world's tallest waterfalls, Angel Falls, in Venezuela; the mysterious Easter Island; the pristine Galapagos Island; world-class metropolises, endless beaches and many other wonders belong to this continent.

Portuguese and Spanish is widely spoken in South America.
