Directions: On the Southern end of Ubud Town and just beside Monkey Forest. Operating Hours: 24 Hours  Staying at Tegal Sari in Ubud was undoubtedly the best choice we have made in our trip to Bali. Living up to the well known fact that Bali is a place to relax, the experience of staying in a villa made it unforgettable for us. Best of all, we felt the price tag that comes with it is very reasonable, at 600,000 + 10% tax (~S$95) / night for one of the best room types. Tegal Sari is also listed as one of the best Asian hotels on TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice 2011, testifying to the quality of its accommodation and service.

Room

While we didn’t exactly stay in a full-fledged villa that comes with a private pool, our Super Deluxe Room exceeded our expectations. From the front balcony, we could see the whole stretch of green paddy fields, amongst which some farmers are busy taking care of their rice crops.

The front balcony comes with viewing chairs, a table for breakfast, and even an outdoor bed.The room was spacious despite the large King size bed, with sofas, cupboards and a mini bar. The toilet comes with a mini bathtub, located right beside a square window overlooking the paddy fields.

Compound

Tegal Sari is located in the southern end of Ubud central, situated amidst green paddy fields owned by the locals. Thus, most rooms have refreshing views of the paddy fields, which is a major plus point. Interestingly, there is a three-storey tower in the middle, of which you can walk up and enjoy fantastic bird’s eye views of the entire compound.

Common facilities include a small swimming pool, a hut for in-house massage, and a small gym with weights. Two restaurants are located on both entrances, and you can ask for your meals to be delivered to your room!

Service

Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by two friendly receptionists. While we were enjoying a refreshing welcome drink and waiting for our room reservation to be processed, one of them explained to us in detail about the hotel facilities, services provided, and about Ubud generally. Fyi, free transport is provided to central Ubud area, and chargeable for further distances.

Waking up with breakfast served at our doorsteps were definitely something we wanted to try. At about IDR50,000 (~$7), you can get a wholesome Continental or Indonesian breakfast, complete with juice, coffee/tea and fruits. The food was not bad at all and gave us two great mornings. (: On the overall, the staff were very friendly and attended to our needs promptly. There’s nothing else I can ask for!

We had a great experience at Tegal Sari, and our stay is one of the main reasons why we love Ubud more than any other place. If there was any chance we would return to Bali for a holiday again, Tegal Sari would be our one and only choice… Do remember to make an online reservation early on their website if you wish to stay here. They are so popular you may need to reserve up to months in advance!
