As a teen, online socializing is one great way to stay connected and share fun interests with your friends. Koolred lets you do all this. But never forget that this is a public space. Meaning: You're not only connecting with the people you know, but are also open to potential new friends as well as people with ill intentions in mind.
So be smart and read this friendly reminder on how to be safe online.
The Golden Rule of Thumb
Keep It Real
When you sign up on Koolred, you're already required to key in your birth date. (Remember: You have to be 13 years old and above to join. Please read our
FAQs.) Be honest and don't pretend to be the age you're not. Otherwise, Koolred has the right to take action against you.
It's Personal
Your personal information like your password, email address, phone number and the exact location of where you live or go to school/work should not be shared openly. It is private and should remain private.
Make Use Of The Privacy Settings
Take control and be the one to set who can view or comment on your site. Go to your Account Settings to make the necessary adjustments.
Be Careful Who You Accept
Make sure whoever you accept as a "friend" on Koolred is truly someone you know in person. Be discreet as you would in real life situations.
Think Twice
Be 100% sure of what you want to post online, whether it is a blog entry or a photo. Think it through to be absolutely sure that it is something you don't mind sharing with anyone. Anything that will embarrass you, or gives away too much information, or just plain makes you doubtful, don't post it up.
You Are Not 'Invincible'
Your profile is a virtual representation of you. Be aware of how much you reveal about yourself on it. You may not mention what school you go to, but photos of you in uniform with your name tag on or a blog entry about a particular school activity may give away clues to predators out there.
Your Gut Feeling May Be Right
Don't talk about things or do anything you're uncomfortable with. If your gut feeling gives you a huge hint that something is wrong, listen to it. Like, if someone is pressuring or attempting to trick you to reveal something personal or harassing you in some way, please report to the Koolred Team immediately.
Play Nice
Treat people the way you want to be treated. Show some respect. But do report to the Koolred Team pronto if you come across any inappropriate conduct or content on the site.
Avoid In-Person Meetings
Some people are not who they say they are. It's wise to avoid meeting in person unless you really know them. But if you must, be wary and take the necessary precaution. Ensure to obtain important information like contact number and photo of this person before you decide to meet up. Notify family or friends that you are meeting this person, provide them the details and make sure it is at a public place. Better yet, invite a bunch of friends along as well.
Socialize Smart
Don't get too carried away with your online socializing that you forgotten the rules above. Keep in mind to use your common sense and better judgement whenever you're online.
