Hong Kong’s biggest and most atmospheric market is the Temple Street Night Market (Metro: Jordan, Yau Ma Tei (exit C), Jordan (exit C2)), the place to go for cheap clothes, watches, footwear, kitsch and memorabilia. Visit between 7pm and 10pm.
If you’re interested in jade, head for the Jade Market in Yau Ma Tei (Metro: Yau Ma
Tei (exit C), Jordan (exit A)), close to the Night Market on Kansu St. According to Chinese belief, jade wards off evil spirits and protects travellers. Throngs of bargain hunters head to the
Ladies’ Market on Tung Choi St, two blocks east of Nathan Rd and the Mong Kok MTR Station, that mainly sells inexpensive clothing.
Don’t be fooled by the name because you can find all sorts of clothing here and
it’s the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for anything under the sun. Vendors
start setting up their stalls as early as noon, but it’s best to get here between 1pm and
6pm when there’s much more on offer. There’s a bustling flea market selling
electronic goods, old watches and coins on Apliu St close to Sham Shui Po MTR Station.
For colour and fragrance you can’t beat the Flower Market (a short stroll from Prince
Edward MTR Station), which gets busy after 10am, especially on Sundays.
