A couple of weeks ago I went to the Subang Immigration Office to renew my passport. It was effortless and hassle free. Here are some tips for you if you're intending to renew your passport here.

Subang Immigration Office NO LONGER at Terminal 2, Subang Airport

That's right folks, if you're familiar with the Terminal 2 office - it's no longer there. The immigration office is located now about a 10minute drive from there.

New Subang Immigration Office:

Blok A, Plaza Glomac

Jalan SS7/19 Kelana Jaya,

47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Note: There are one or two other buildings in the vicinity with the names 'Glomac' in them ie: Wisma Glomac. Please ensure you're headed to 'Plaza Glomac'.

Use the KIOSK Machine

I saved so much time using the kisok. There was an officer there to help me out after which a receipt was printed and I was told to come back in an hour to collect my passport.

What to have ready

To renew your passport please bring with you:

1) Your current passport and MyKad

2) RM300 (for 5 year renewal) - try to have 6 x RM50 notes - it's easier to feed the kiosk with the cash this way

3) Recent passport-sized photo. I was only asked to provide one.

4) A photocopy of your MyKad. Front and back on the same side of an A4-sized paper.

Can I take my passport photo at the office itself?

Yes you may. There is a dude just outside the office charging RM12 for 6 photos. He will ask you to sit on a stool, while he snaps your pretty face then he instantly prints the photo for you. All done in a matter of minutes.

However if you go right into the office, there is a dude who charges RM10 for 5 photos I believe. He also offers services like photocopying your IC.

Is there an ATM at Plaza Glomac?

I truly don't know. I would advise you to withdraw your money before heading to the office.

What do I do when I enter the office?

As you enter, (and if you're planning to use the kiosk) then don't bother taking any 'nombor'.

Head directly to the kiosk (red machine resembling an ATM machine). If someone is using it, stand behind, wait your turn and don't be nervous. There will be an officer to guide you.

He will ask for one passport-sized photo and the photocopy of your IC. Hand it to him.

Then he will touch the screen of the kiosk and begin the process for you. When it comes slotting in your current passport he will let u know. Then he will ask you to press your thumb on the thumb reader. If the machine manages to 'read' your thumb print, he will ask u to slot in the cash. He will then ask you to key in your handphone number. A receipt will then be printed out upon which he will tell you to come back in an hour.

Before your leave have a look at the receipt, ensure your name and MyKad number is correct.

How do I kill the one-hour waiting time?

There is a mamak stall just next to the office, where you can have a drink and read etc.

What happens after one hour?

You walk into the office, and head directly to 'Counter 1'. You give them the receipt. They will ask for your MyKad and also scan your thumbprint again. They will present you with your new passport and you will have to sign it on the spot.

Before you leave

Do a quick check of your new passport. Ensure all your details are in order before you leave.

Random: When is the best time to renew my passport?

I went on a Friday. I left my home at 9.12am. I was home by 11am with my brand new passport.

DO NOT go during school holidays or right before or right after public holidays.
