So there I was on a hot Saturday afternoon, seated comfortably in the lounge area of Sompoton Spa sipping my warm mild ginger tea and wiping my hands with a hot towel. It was almost time for my massage. Tick tock. Still waiting. Finally 2pm!

Out comes my therapist, Lenny, smiling ear to ear beckoning me to follow her. She seemed so friendly. I was immediately at ease. I followed her closely my mind wondering if this massage would be as good as claimed by a friend.

Once changed, I was first invited to a foot bath. I sat down, while Lenny placed my feet into a large tub of water filled with rose petals. She gently scrubbed and wiped my feet.

I was ready for my 'Signature Massage' now. I later found out that a Signature Massage was based on a combination of Malay, Swedish and Shiatsu massage techniques. Wow! This was definitely something unique and very different from my regular massages.

The massage is designed to heal and strengthen the body and mind, improve blood circulation and create a feeling of well-being. It was slightly painful at times, I must admit. Lenny explained that that was due to poor blood circulation at certain areas. She added that a sedentary lifestyle which involves a lot of 'sitting' could be one of the causes.

For this specific massage, Lenny was using an oil (Relax) which was a combination of lavendar, sweet orange and rose geranium. Needless to say it was very soothing and smelled great too!

The massage lasted for 60 minutes. I didn't fall asleep (I hardly do during massages!) but I felt so rejuvenated. I had no make up on at all, but yet there was a glow on my face shorly after!

The thing about Sompoton Spa is eventhough they are nestled in Hotel Istana located in the city centre of KL, you would never know it. The Spa is cleverly tucked away in a corner, far from the hustle and bustle of people and activity.

The warmth of the staff to the way they bid you farewell as you leave the establishment speaks volume of the type of place this is.

Sompotan Spa can be reached at 03 2148 8910. Or you could email them at enquiry@sompotonspa.com.They have massages, facials, therapies as well as spa indulgence packages.

I said goodbye to Lenny and left with a smile as big as hers. It was definitely a Saturday afternoon well spent!

Interesting: The word 'Sompoton' actually refers to an indigenous tribal flute. Inspired by the rich culture and ancient philosophy of Sabah in Borneo, Sompoton Spa was created.
