Remember to read my
previous post for 3 types of finger food that you can serve in a party when you're on a budget. Today I'll blog about the dessert part =)
Cinnamon and Orange Zest Palmiers
What you need:
Two sheets of puff pastry- one for each flavour
Castor Sugar (or just put normal sugar into food processor and pulse for few seconds to get powdered sugar)
Cinnamon powder
Orange- Grate the skin of one orange
-
Thaw puff pastry and sprinkle generous amount of castor sugar on the sheet of puff pastry
-
Sprinkle cinnamon on both sheet, but sprinkle orange zest only on one sheet
-
Fold the pastry to the middle, if the puff pastry is limp, put in freezer for it to harden ( seriously you have to check out the step-by-step of the folding here to know what I'm talking about)
-
Slice thinly and placed on baking sheets
-
Bake till one side is golden and flip and bake again till golden. Please becareful when handling hot pastry.
-
Best to be eaten straight away or store in airtight bottle. The crispiness can only last 1-2 days.
Done and Done! My mom rolled these. Scroll down to see my creation *face palm*
Still mom's creation, half baked
Here's my palmiers that looked mutated!! At least they are crispy..
Millionaire’s Shortbread
This Britsh shortbread tasted like Mars/ Twix bars and has 3 layers. It looks complicated but it's so simple, just 5 ingredients required to prepare them!
I got this recipe from watching
5 Ingredients during my work from home time :)
Whoa, this slice has a very thick caramel, next time I'll do a thinner layer.. this is too sweet even for me..
What you’ll need:
Crust:
Flour- 240g
Fine Sugar- 130g
Butter, fresh out from fridge- 220g
Salt
Caramel Layer:
Sweetened creamer- just 150ml will be enough
2 tablespoon butter
Chocolate Layer:
Chocolate blocks- I just one bar of Meiji Milk Chocolate (those thin bar that you can get in Daiso/ Shojikiya) and two chunks of cooking chocolate (those Nona, Hershey, Van Houten.. etc)
Salt
-
Pulse butter, sugar, salt and flour in food processor
-
Pour the mixture on buttered cake tin and press and bake till pale yellow and cool completely
-
Cook the sweetened creamer with the butter on pan with low heat until it turn caramel brown (15-20 mins). Keep stirring so the bottom will not burn.
-
Spread it on the shortcake, a thin layer will do
-
Melt chocolate on a bowl over saucepan of boiling water and spread on the shortcake (10mins, for some reason Meiji Choco are hard to melt)
-
Wait for it to cool down and put in the fridge for the chocolate layer to harden
-
Take out, slice with sharp knife and serve. Yum!!
How the sweetened caramel will look like after cooking them. Mine has bits of darker brown blobs because my lazy sis didn't really stir the thing properly. FAIL

.
Here's the buttery crust. I tink I overbaked them a bit.
Spread with caramel
Spread with chocolate
Slice and serve!! Yummmmish!!!
