Believed to be one of the oldest celebrations in the world, Halloween dates back to over 2,000 years and the spooky traditions are still carried on every 31st of October.

Though Halloween is not celebrated on a major scale in Asia, some countries still adopt some of its practices during the Halloween season such as having zombie walks, craving pumpkins to make Jack O’ Lanterns and even hosting Halloween-themed parties where you’ll need to be fully-costumed to enter.

At Koolred, we’re pretty big fans of Halloween. Our favourite elements of Halloween would have to be the creative decorations as well as the tradition of ‘Trick o’ Treating’ during this spooktacular event. So we’ve decided to combine these two elements into one by creating a tutorial on making spooky, homemade Halloween lollipops.

We’ll guide you on how to make Spooky Ghost and Dracula Lollipops with things you can find at home. Plus, it does not cost much to make!

Frighten your friends this Halloween with these spooky lollies!

Just because it’s not an Asian culture to go ‘Trick o’ Treating’ from door to door, it doesn’t mean you can’t make these easy Halloween sweets to give to your friends as gifts!
So get creative and have fun!

Spooky Ghost Lollipops

What you need
  1. Lollipops
  2. Tissues
  3. White Yarn
  4. Ribbons
  5. Scissors
  6. Black Marker

What to do

1. Cut a length of white yarn (approximately 16cm long).

2. Centre the tissue on top of the lollipop.

3. Tie the yarn under the lollipop to secure everything in place.

4. Cut a length of ribbon and tie a bow on top of the yarn.

5. Draw two eyes with a black marker.

Additional Tips

  • You can add a mouth on your ghost lolly as well.
  • If your tissue is too thin and rather see-through, use two tissues to wrap instead.

If you have more materials and more time, try out these vampire lollies instead:

Dracula Lollipops

What you need
  1. Lollipops
  2. Red cellophane wrap (plastic wrap)
  3. Black Felt
  4. Plastic Paper Fasteners
  5. White Address Labels
  6. White Yarn
  7. Scissors
  8. Sequins
  9. Cape Pattern

What to do
1. Use the pattern below to cut capes using the black felt for each lollipop you want to decorate.

2. Cut a piece of square (approximately 15cm x 15cm) from the cellophane wrap. Make sure it’s large enough to wrap around the head of the lollipop.

3. Wrap the cellophane around the lollipop and twist the wrap under the lollipop’s head to secure it in place.

4. Place the wrapped lollipop onto the black felt cape.

5. Cut a piece of white yarn and make a tight knot around the neck of the lollipop.

6. Use the plastic bit of the paper fastener to make a simple knot at the neck of the lollipop to conceal the white yarn.

7. To make the face of the Dracula, stick on two pieces of silver sequin as eyes to make it seem like your Dracula is trying to glamour its victims.

Cut out two triangles from the white address labels as fangs for your Dracula. Stick them below the sequin eyes.

Additional Tips
  • Use different colours of cellophane wrap to give your lollipops some variations.
  • Substitute the plastic paper fasteners with twisty ties if you can get hold of some.
  • Use wiggle or creepy eyes on your vampire instead of sequins if you don’t want your vampire to ‘glamour’ you.
